The Midlands Astronomy Club will host COSMOS 2026 on Saturday, 11 April 2026 at the Teach Lea Community Centre, situated in the scenic surroundings of Lough Boora Discovery Park, County Offaly.
COSMOS has long been an established fixture in the Irish astronomical calendar, providing an opportunity for both amateur and professional astronomers to come together for a day of lectures, discussion, and shared interest in astronomy and space science.
This year, the organisers are pleased to welcome Dr Donnacha O’Driscoll, President of the Irish Astronomical Society, who will deliver a lecture entitled:
“Masters of Light & Iron: The Rise & Legacy of the Grubb Telescope Company”
This presentation will examine the significant role of the Grubb Telescope Company in the development of astronomical instrumentation during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and its lasting contribution to observational astronomy.
