January 26 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Stars With A Story - Image
Our first talk of 2026 will be presented by our fellow member John Flannery at 7:30pm on next Monday 26th January (see details below).  It will take place at our usual venue in Beech Hill, UCD, Eircode D04 P7W1.
The talk will also be available on Zoom. Join the Zoom Meeting by clicking this link a few minutes beforehand.
Description: “Fifteen of the twenty one stars that astronomers grade as first magnitude or brighter can be seen from Ireland over the course of the year. These luminaries range from next door neighbours of our Sun, to real powerhouses of the Milky Way galaxy. Each tells a story that is woven into cultural and astronomical history, and are in-the-main a part of the best known constellations visible over the seasons. Our talk tonight will explore how you can get to know the brightest stars and see the sky anew.”
Bio: John Flannery is an active committee member of the Irish Astronomical Society. He is editor of the Irish Astronomical Society quarterly journal “Orbit” and the “Sky High” annual almanac. He has written a series of monthly articles on astronomy in the Irish Times. He contributes monthly sky notes at astronomy events and he is active in astronomy outreach events. He is one of the best known amateur astronomers in Ireland.
